A year of Remote Working

It's been about a year since I delved into the world of full-time remote working and it's been a good ass year too.

There have been a number of challenges to overcome and a few differences to my day-to-day working life, but I think it's made me more productive.

The advantages are no interruptions, no travel costs to and from work, a more relaxed day (but with the same stresses that come with my occupation) and the location allows me to sit out on the balcony in the sun with a brew in hand whilst I figure out solutions to bugs and complex issues.

The main struggle I have is with communication. Sometimes it's hard to communicate effectively when you're half the way across the world. Talking via chat is not always the best means of contacting people and is also quite time consuming. A video call never truly seems to beat a good old face-to-face chat, but these are minor problems in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, remote working has been a challenge, but a good one, and it's good to challenge yourself!
